Chrysler Repair: 91 Dodge Dynasty: Wiper fuse blows, dodge dynasty, postal mail

Question
My wiper blades were going fine then thy froze in the upright position during use. The manual said it could be a fuse so we changed the fuse but it blows the fuse as soon as you start the wipers. The radio quit working about 6 months ago Could these two be from the same issue. I was told it could be a electrical short or the wiper blade motor.

Answer
Hi Dianna,
The radio and the wipers are on different fuses (20 and 18). I would suggest that you remove the plug from the wiper motor, then replace the fuse, then turn on the wiper switch and if it still blows then there is a problem in the wiring to the switch or from the switch to the motor. If it doesn't blow then the wiper motor needs to be replaced. In any case, you will probably want to have a working fuse 18 because it also runs part of the body computer and part of the security system. If the motor needs replacement I can send you the few details that would be helpful to know along with a diagram showing the parts. I have to xerox and postal mail that to you. You might well find a motor at a wrecking yard if you can't get one reasonably from a parts store/dealer. If it appears to the wiring I can send you the wiring diagrams and we can discuss how to find out if it is the switch or the wiring.
To get to the wiper motor so as to remove its plug, remove the wiper arms (held on the pivots by a nut), remove the top plastic cover of the cowl panel that runs across in front of the windshield, and that should real the motor with its plug, attached to the linkage that connects it to the pivots. The plug should just pull out, or it might have a tab to lift and then pull it.  Then you can do the test I described above and see if the fuse blows or not with the motor disconnected.
