Chrysler Repair: 89 Turbo: high fuel consumption/hard starting/ no codes, fuel pressure regulator, spark plug wires

Question
I have a 1989 2.5 DODGE DAYTONA TURBO. The problem I have is: I have trouble starting the car will not start immediately, must be given several times and if I'm lucky but it starts the engine and smell quickly chokes too much petrol. when he succeeded in lighting, gasoline consumption is very high. I have changed spark plugs, distributor cap, rotor, spark plug wires, I sent to clean the nozzles which are now correct in their proportion of flow, but it did not improve. I have sent to be scanned and all values are correct, the scan does not show any flaws. will be the MAP sensor? perhaps the pressure regulator? please reply thanks hope

Answer
Hi Carlos,
Might this be a Turbo I (2.5L) that was first sold in California? If so, then you do have an exhaust gas recirculation valve on it and that might be sticking ajar and messing up the mixture. If so, then find the egr valve and move the stem back and forth while you spray some WD-40 on the stem where it enters the valve body to free-up the motion. That would be a mixture issue which might help to clear if you have that egr valve. The turbo II (2.2L) doesn't have an egr.
The map sensor could be inaccurate and indeed that could mess up your mixture, and without giving you a fault code. I have experienced that on an '89 2.5 non-turbo.
I can't tell you about the fuel pressure regulator accept to measure it at the test port: 55 psi +/- 2 is the spec.
Use the ignition key to check for fault codes. "on-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. Then watch the power loss light on the cluster, which remains 'on',
to see it begin to flash, pause, flash, etc. Count the number of flashes before each pause. Then repeat to be sure of an accurate set of flash counts. Then tell me the results.
Do you have the vacuum line diagram? If so check those all for any leaks. Have you changed the PCV valve?  If you don't have the vacuum diagram let me know which engine you have and where it was first sold and I will xerox and postal mail you the diagram. Tell me a postal mail address.
Let me know what you find.
