Chrysler Repair: Limp-in mode, ABS, and check engine light :1998 Cirrus, chrysler cirrus, 1998 chrysler cirrus

Question
QUESTION: Still working on the 1998 Chrysler Cirrus with the 6 cyl 2.5L, auto transmission, around 160K miles.

No start problem turned out to have multiple causes.  Replaced fuel pump module, distributor, plugs, and wires, fixed a kink in the fuel line at the fuel filter, now the car runs.  Thanks for all the help!

However, the ABS light is now on.  The car has been sitting for a couple months, thought maybe it would clear, but it has not, or at least not yet (but I have only started it twice and driven maybe 20 miles - the battery was dead and is still recharging).  Also, after driving it maybe 20 miles after the fuel pump install, the check engine light came on and the transmission will not shift above second gear.

I'll pull the codes tonight, but my question is whether there is something related to replacing the distributor and fuel pump or just sitting outside unused for three months that might be causing these problems.  These symptoms are all new - everything was fine until the fuel pump failed, causing the no-start.

Thanks.

ANSWER: Hi Dec,
While there is no operational relationship between the ABS and the electronic transmission, they do share the output of 5 different fuse any one of which might, if blown, cause them both to malfunction. So check fuses 4, 7, 8 under the dash and fuses 5 and 11 in the box under the hood. Thanks for the progress report on the engine malfunctions. Let me know what codes you get and we'll go from there.

QUESTION: The codes are P1768 and P700.

The car had been sitting for two months in the yard, and had sunk into the mud a bit.  If the tone rings had gotten mud or dirt on them, would that cause these problems?

One more question - the short flexible gas line from the hard line to the fuel filter was kinked.  I was able to gentle squeeze it back into shape temporarily, but I think I need to replace that line. It is a thin-walled tube, black shiny material, looks sort of like vinyl.  I just slips over the hard line and appears to be shrunk down on that end to secure it.  On the fuel filter side it has a quick connect.

Any suggestions on where to find a repair kit or how to repair that?  The parts stores sell a repair kit with the quick connect, but it's not clear how to attach it to the hard line.

Thanks.

Answer
Hi Dec,
The 1698 means there are no digital messages going out on the twisted-wire digital data bus from the transmission controller to the body computer which is on the back side of fuse box in the cabin. You might want to check the wires from that module to the body control module. Those are on pins 4 and 43 vs 14 and 6(black plug at the body module), respectively. Did you check the fuses that I listed? The abs code could indeed be due to dirt build up on the sensors so clean those off.
The 0700 just says that there is a trans fault code stored...
On the fuel line, may I suggest that you tell the newest expert at this category, "shopteacher" the history of that an I am pretty sure he will give you a good answer.
