Chrysler Repair: Insrument cluster lights out - 01 Sebring conv, turn signal switch, sebring conv

Question
Hi.  The light for the speedometer/tach/gas gauge/etc. has been working only intermittently for a while.  But now it is almost always off. Everything else on the cluster is fine--and the instruments themselves are registering; it's just dark at night. I am guessing it could be a circuit board issue, maybe a cold solder or loose connection.  But would it most likely be in the light/turn signal switch on the steering column? Or behind the cluster itself? In which case, how would I get in there to fix it?  Thanks.

Answer
Hi Ed,
The panel dimmer control operates not only the cluster but also the heater/ac control, radio control, and gear shift indicator intensity. So unless all those lights are also out you have to believe it is either a wire from the body computer to the cluster or the connection of the wire's socket pin to the cluster printed circuit board (solder joint possibly cold).
The wire is orange and arrives at the cluster on pin 12 of its plug and comes from pin 12 of the body computer 26-pin plug (there are two plugs that size, this is the more squarish one). I suspect the cluster board/pin solder joint is the issure though. It would be easier for me to xerox copy and mail you four pages from the '03* manual that show how to remove the cluster bezel to then get at the screws holding the cluster in the dash. Just give me a postal mailing address by means of a private follow-up.

*I believe the cluster is identical to your '01, otherwise let me know.
