Chrysler Repair: no start &no bus message at odometer: 99 Cirrus, crank sensor, auto repair shop

Question
99 chrysler cirrus will not start. all fuses goos. plugs,wires,cap/rotor new. I have replaced crank sensor as well as distributor. getting no spark. odometer gives "nobus" message. any thoughts?

Answer
Hi Eddie,
That message, absent any other problems with the vehicle, would be a report that the cluster electronics are not getting digital data on a pair of wires (called the bus) that come to it from the body control module which is the rectangular unit on the face of the fuse box that is located behind the left side end cap of the dash. I would suspect in that simple situation that there is a cold solder joint at the connection between the cluster plug socket and the cluster printed circuit board related to one of the two wires that are involved with the bus, located at pin 7 and 8 of the blue plug at the rear of the cluster.
However the fact that the engine won't start and you have this message opens the possibility that the digital data 'bus' itself is not putting any data on its wires so that engine communications are also impaired. Because of the central role of the body computer I would suggest that you carefully verify that all the fuses that power the bcm are in fact showing voltage on both sides of the fuses when you have the key in the 'run' position: fuses: fuses 5, 9 and 11 in the box behind the dash that I first mentioned (5 and 9 should show voltage even when the ignition is off). You would like wise want to check fuses 1, 5, 8, 9 and 10 in the box that is under the hood which power the engine control module If that checks out, then you would probably need to question the system by means of a diagnostic readout box (not just a 'simple code reader) which can help to pinpoint exactly where/why the bus is not carrying any data. It would unforunately require towing it to a dealer or a competent electroics auto repair shop, after discussing with them your obsevations and my suggestion.
