Chrysler Repair: 2001 Chrysler 300M drivers seat will not go down, auto wrecking yard, 2001 chrysler 300m

Question
The driver's seat motor for the height adjustment just clicks and will not move the seat down (stuck in the full up position). Dealer says I have to buy the whole assembly ($723.00 plus tax). Is there any place where I can purchase the motor if this is what is wrong?

Answer
Hi Dan
I have not tried to find a vendor for the power seat track motors. My suggestion would be to ask the question at a Chrysler LH owners internet Group, such as at Autos.Yahoo.com which has such groups. No doubt another owner facing this same dilemma has figured out a work-around. At that cost there is a high incentive to do so. I would not be surprised to find that you might be able to repair it yourself or at leasst take it to a small motor repair shop to see if they will be able to do it. An alternative is to find it at a pull-it-yourself auto wrecking yard and get one that way.
To remove the seat, move it as far forward as is necessary to gain access to the bolts that hold the track to the floor at the rear of the track. Then move the seat back and remove the bolts at the front of the seat that hold the track to the floor 'kick up'. The disconnect the electrical connectors at the seat and finally remove it. Examine the motors that raise/lower and in combination tilt the seat. Perhaps you will be able to remove the motor, free up it action and reinstall it without a repair being needed at all.
Please let me know if any success that you have in beating the dealer!
