Chrysler Repair: 00 town and country: no gauges at cluster, soldering pencil, odometer reading

Question
The speedometer, tachometer, and other gauges just stop working. Is there a fuse or relay you can replace to fix it??
Thanks, Jamie

Answer
Hi Jamie,
If the odometer reading works then power from fuse #2 in the box under the dash is OK, and that fuse plus the courtesy lamp/remote door locks IOD fuse #28 are the only two fuses that power the cluster. If in doubt, take a look at 2 and 28.
So if it is purely missing the data that is needed to operate the gauges digitally then it probably is a poor connection from the body computer (located on the back side of the fuse box) to the cluster that comes in on pins 9 and 10 of the plug at the cluster. There is often an issue with a solder joint between the plug socket pin and the circuit board proper when such happens so to fix that you remove the cluster and touch a soldering pencil to the joint to re-establish a good electrical connection. Other owners say that if you tap/wrap on the top of the cluster the connection may re-establish, at least temporarily.
There is also a self-diagnostic test you can run: with the ignition off, press and hold the trip and reset buttons, then while holding the buttons turn 'on' the ignition and when the work 'code' or similar word appears in the odometer window release the buttons and wait for another code number to appear in the odometer window. The cluster will also go through some self-calibration  tests. Let me know what shows up in the odometer window and we'll go from there.
