Chrysler Repair: Chrysler LHS draining battery, security alarm system, chrysler lhs

Question
QUESTION: Hi, I have a '99 LHS, which has been sitting for a while..I'm planning on selling it, but when I charge the battery it only lasts for about a week; then the battery is dead again... when this first started, I bought a new battery(thinking that was the problem), but even with the new battery, now 8 months old, it is still dead after a week... I'm suspecting that it may be the security/alarm system? Nothing else is "on" that I know of.. Is there a fuse I can pull to disable it, so I can keep the battery charged continuously (kind of hard to sell a car when the battery keeps dying). Or is there something else I'm not thinking about?
Thank you,
John

Answer
Hi John,
My suggestion would be that you remove fuse 19 in the box that is located behind the left end-cap of the dash, as that is the ignition-off draw fuse which provides power used when the ignition is 'off' to sustain the electronics and to respond to a request to open the doors, etc. If that solves the drain down problem we can then go through the various devices that might be drawing unnecessarily. One for example would be the trunk light which you could check by getting in the trunk and having a trusted friend nearby to let you out after he shuts the lid. Similary, verify that the glove box light is 'off' by looking from under the dash for a crack in the lining which would reveal a falsely 'on' light. There are a few other fuses that might be involved but this is the main one. A volt-ohm-millamp meter would be helpful if we have to go into details.
