Chrysler Repair: rear brake rotor removal/bind-up of rotor: minivan, brake rotor removal, star wheel

Question
The rear rotor is somewhat loose on this 2005 town and country. we beat on the hub to loosen it and uses wd-40 to grease the slide but the rotor is hanging up on the e-break shoes.they are not siezed up because we can move the rotor around the shoes, barely. its like the shoes are cocking.

Answer
Hi Casey,
I believe that you will find there to be star wheel adjuster for the parking brake shoes, just like there was in the days of drum type brakes, though I must admit that it is not shown clearly in the manual, but it is mentioned in the process of setting the emergency brake shoes properly. Look on the backing plate for a slot at about 6 o'clock which would be its location. I would try backing off that star wheel in the hope of reducing the 'spread' of the brake shoes against the drum; but count the clicks (as you move it one way and the other to figure out which way loosens the bind) that you are moving it so that later you can return to that position, otherwise you have to do some careful measuring of the drum diameter and the shoe diameter to reset the shoes to fit the drum which would be an unnecessary procedure if you can keep track of where you are at right now.
