QUESTION: Hi Roland,

Sorry for the numerous questions but I have more.  To continue the previous thread I had to post as another question as the computer said. The manual that I have from ATSG seems to skip some particulars here and there, such as not showing the stirrup and strap for the output gear. I cannot find any torque specs for that so I am intending on using 25 ft. lbs with a small spot of thread locker for the stirrup and strap. I have not been using a dial meter instead I have been using a combination of a 45 degree feeler gauge for clearance for end play with a gear puller, combining a spark plug gauge (disk style) and a straight edge for thickness.  I have also been fabricating the "Special Tools" with general wood, laminate flooring and different size C clamps.  The only tool I could not fabricate was the snap ring pliers used in removing the transfer shaft.  Thanks for the offer of the more detailed partial manual but, I think with your direction and other resources, some from Chrysler, I have been able to piece together a complete picture for the most part.  The questions I have are about the transmission cooler.  I have opted to ad an auxiliary cooler 22k GVW with the factory one.  I have purchased some transmission cooler flush from Trans Flush.  I neglected to tag my cooler lines to and from the transmission and cooler.  The book from ATSG shows the input line to the cooler as being the lower one on the radiator and the return line being the upper line from the radiator. Is this correct?  Conventional wisdom would be to have the input line going on the top connection at the radiator as heat raises. Also can you tell me what ports on the transmission are the output and input.  The fittings are the same length from the bellhousing and in a straight line the only difference that I can see is one fitting is closer the the engine block. Can you tell which one is the output and input? The last question is I am considering on installing an inline transmission filter between the return line in the factory cooler and the input line in the auxiliary one to trap any metal particles that may still be left in the transmission after the flush; is this a good idea?  The flow rate of inline filter is 2-3 gpm, I cannot find how much the internal pump for the transmission pumps at gpm.  Thanks for all the help!

ANSWER: Hi Micah,
I searched the '98 manual for information about the oil cooler routings but found nothing helpful, nor info on the filter. I will keep looking in other manuals and let you know if I find something.

QUESTION: Hi Roland, the transmission is rebuilt and installed back in the vehicle and all is well in that department - thanks again for all of your help. I am now installing a new radiator and I am puzzled to find that the radiator box included o rings with no instructions on where they go - do you have any idea?  Also, when attaching the nipples it says hand screw and then torque to manufacturer specs but I cannot locate these anywhere in the manuals I have...  I start a new job tomorrow and I'm working on it this evening to try to get it installed to avoid having to get a rental car in the morning (the radiator replacement issue only came up last night).  Thanks again - hopefully after this is done I will be good to go for a long time!

Hi Micah,
I don't find any torque listed for the hoses attached to the nipples. On the o-rings, might those be the ones that the radiator bottom sits upon at the mounting holes?, called "isolaters". The radiator should be pushed down on those with 10 pounds of force to seat it in place says the '98 manual. Make sure the air seals at the edges are in place before installing the radiator.
