Chrysler Repair: 95 LeBaron:no turn signal/no flasher, fuse box, chrysler dealership

Question
Turn signals quit working. Bought a $49.00 flasher from Chrysler dealership. Not the problem. And they won't take it back because they do not take back "electrical" parts. Have been told it is probably the "multifunction" switch located in the steering column. Hazard lights don't work either. Is this an easy fix and how is it fixed? One place wants close to $300.00 to fix.

Answer
Hi Kerin,
Start by checking the fuse between pins 36 and 37 in the power box under the hood near the left strut tower. That fuse is a small one (20 amp) at the very most in-board end of the box, rear row. Then check fuse 6 in the fuse box under the dash (20 amp). Look for both a frank blow out or a subtle crack in the fuse wires which would make them non-conduct. Then remove the flasher relay and check that the rear-most pin socket shows 0 ohms to ground. The check that the front-most pin socket shows 12V and that the top-most pin shows 12V when the ignition is in the 'run' position. If all that checks out and the new flasher didn't fix it, then the multi-function switch has to be the problem. You might try spraying some electrical contact cleaner (available at an electronics store) inside the switch through any available cracks/ports in the case should there be an oxidized contact inside. Do that with the hazards on and off, and with the turns left and right.
Please let me know what you learn or what fixed it; or what you are going to try, before spending any more money unnecessarily. Good luck!
