Chrysler Repair: Thermostat replacement: 2.5L V-6, drain cock, horizontal pipe

Question
Is it difficult to replace a thermostat on a 1998 sebring convertible? and how is it done?

Answer
Hi Jim,
It is quite easy. You drain off enough fluid and collect it for reuse from the radiator drain cock so as to bring the level down to the thermostat housing level or lower (probably 2-3 quarts would do it). The housing is on a horizontal pipe below the filler cap and you will see one of the radiator hoses going to the housing that is held in place hy three bolts. Remove the bolts, take off the housing cap and you will find the thermostat within, note its position. Put the new one in, use a new gasket but clean the sealing surfaces, and put on the cap. Tighten bolts to  13 foot-pounds of torque. Put the saved coolant back in the filler cap.
