Chrysler Repair: 97 lhs: no start, blower runs all the time, amp fuse, independent shop

Question
Hello, and thank you for your patience. So I went out today, car started, turned it off, would not restart. Went and got new ignition switch, still no start. And I have no control over the heater, turn it off nothing happens, no fan adjustment, just blows full force all the time. Did this yesterday when I had it running and was running around as well. HELP!!

Answer
Hi Ken,
On the blower fan being uncontrollable, I will assume that you have the automatic temp control unit, though this could also happen with the conventional type of controls. I believe that the blower motor multi-speed voltage supply unit, called the 'blower motor module' has failed (with the conventional unit it usually can only be off or full 'on' when the blower resistor block similarly fails). The power for the blower is 25 amp fuse # 21 in the box behind the dash. The ATC control unit itself is also directly powered off the battery so I am not surprised that it will do this sort of thing when you have the ignition 'on'. The power to fuse #21 is provided by the ignition switch in the run position only. So it shouldn't be blowing while you try the starter motor. Pull fuse 21 if you want to get rid of the hassle, but you will have no blower at all until you get a replacement blower module or blower resistor block which ever type of control that you have. It is mounted in air duct in the underdash distribution box (follow the blower motor wires to find it as the motor plugs in there).
On the no start, we are back to square one, so unless you have fault codes (e.g. a check engine light) I can't do any more as to 'why' until you do. May I suggest that the next time you get it to start that you go to an Autozone parts store and get a free fault code readout via the plug under the dash by the steering column, or go to an independent shop where they should do it for under $40. Other than reviewing all my earlier answers to your several questions, I can't suggest anything else to do at this time. If you go through my earlier suggestions and come up with something new to report let me know, or if you get fault codes, we can take it from there.
