Chrysler Repair: 01 Sebring LXI 3.0 V6: poor heating, allen head screws, mechanical actuator

Question
Heating in compartment is very cool. Flushed and changed thermostat with very little response if any. Heater core in tact.

Answer
Hi Eric,
There are two other possible reasons: the heater core circuit is not flowing freely or the blend air door is not moving in response to your requests for the air to be split more to the heater core pathway.
On the core, when the engine has run to full temperature do the two heater hoses that go through the firewall feel about equally warm? If not, then you could disconnect the 2 heater hoses where they join the engine and then use a garden hose supply to backflush the circuit.
On the blend door, you will find that it has an elecro-mechanical actuator which moves it and also sends feed back of its position to the control panel. You will find it on the under side of the air box under the dash, about in the center. Remove the lower edge pad of the dash on the passenger side for better access. You may feel for the movement inside the actuator as you change the temp setting (with the engine running). If it doesn't appear to be moving then it would be appropriate to remove the actuator and try to move the air door from side to side to be sure it isn't binding. Then test whether the actuator is moving when it is remove but still electrically connected. If not, then it is probably the actuator motor or the wiring (which I can tell you the details about) that is 'open'. The actuator is held in place by three allen head screws that are vertically mounted and after they are removed the actuator will drop down. Notice the gear meahing between it and the door fitting.
I hope one of these will work to improve you problem. I will also review the procedure for refilling the system after draining to see if there is something you may have missed which causes there to be air in the heater circuit.
