Chrysler Repair: dodge avenger code 1782, dodge avenger, 1996 dodge avenger

Question
I own a 1996 dodge avenger es 2.5L v6 with auto trans every time i go to have it inspected it fails and gives the code p1782 and just says manufacturer specific code the check engine light is not on and it runs and drives normally. if you could tell me what this code is and how to fix it it would be greatly appreciated Thanks

Answer
Hi Kyle.
That code is obscure. I believe it is related to the transmission, not the engine, but so far none of my transmission service manuals lists that exact number, nor does it show up at the allpar.com web site.  All the 1700's are about the transmission so I have to think it is a transmission fault code.
Could it possibly be 1682? That one is about the charging system output voltage being too low. So take another look with a reader.
You might also call a dealer or trans shop to see if they know of a 1782 code for Chrysler transmissions.
