Chrysler Repair: 2005 Grand Caravan - BCM: power locks?, 2005 grand caravan, grand caravan

Question
Last year my door locks/unlocks stopped working - all the other functions will worked.  I brought my van to the shop at the time, they weren't sure what the problem was, but whatever they did worked??  Now just a few weeks ago, the same thing happened...locks don't work anymore.  The key remote will make the noise like it's locking but doesn't.  The remote will even unlock/lock the hatch. The open/close doors still work also.  This time they didn't magically fix it, but told me it was probably the Body Control Module that needed to be replaced.  Does this sound right to you?  I called the actual dealership and they said it would be anywhere from $100-$200 to diagnose/fix.

Thanks,
Lynn

Answer
Hi Lynn,
Because it sounds like it is connected in some manner to the door lock motors, you might want to check fuse 19 (40 amp) in the box under hood near the battery. The system is mediated by the body computer so unless there is a problem with the power getting to it from that fuse one would need to check out the body computer. When you say the 'open/close' door will work', does that mean an individual lock will operate, but just not all of them? I notice there is an electronic component called a 'diode' on the fuse's ouput wire, and that might have failed. It is a simple part that would have to be soldered in place of the original were it bad. So an autoelectric shop could test that and replace it if failed.

PS: May I ask a favor of you? I am competing to be the 'volunteer of the month' at Allexperts which I will achieve by getting the most nominations from questioners. If you will click on the "Thank/rate the expert" button below you will arrive at a page which asks whether to nominate me for that recognition. If you would then click on the "yes" I would be most appreciative.
