Chrysler Repair: Battery runs down, chrysler town and country, chrysler town and country van

Question
Well someone say my 1998 chrysler town and country van wont start due to a weak or dead battery because when I first tried to start it it started up but it was stuttering or putting and the radio cut off and all the sensor lights on the dashboard kept flashing on and off so I let it sit for two days and went to try to start it and it wouldnt turn over it just clicked everytime you turned the key to start it, now I just replaced the battery not even 2 months ago so what I wanna know is isnt that the alternator making the battery not hold a charge? and if not how can you tell when your alternator is bad?

Answer
Hi Angelica,
It is behaving as if the battery is discharged to too low a voltage to run the starter motor. It could be the alternator is not charging it which you would notice by there being a warning light on the dash and also you would notice that the voltage reading on the dial would be lower than normal (around 12v) instead of 14-15v when the engine is running.
Or it could be that you have a light stuck in the 'on' position and you aren't aware of it, or there is something else that shouldn't draw current doing so when the minivan is shut down. That you could only tell by finding a bulb (perhaps glove compartment or underhood light) and/or  measuring the battery current draw when the minivan is shut down for at least 30 minutes and no lights are on, using an ammeter inserted between the - post clamp and the - post of the battery. It should read less than 25 mA in that full shut down condition. If not let me know and we can go from there.
