Chrysler Repair: Transmission drives in 2nd gear only, sebring convertable, autozone

Question
I own a  2002 sebring convertable and when I drive at 50mph the RPM'S are at 5 what is the problem and how can I fix it and how much will it cost to fix

Answer
Hi Jamisha,
The transmission has a problem and the controller has put it into limp-in mode. The controller also has stored a fault code that gives a clue as to what it thinks is wrong. Get a fault code readout at an Autozone parts store for free, of at an independent shop for under $40. Get the 4-digit fault code number, ask what it means, what it will cost. Then follow up with a question to me telling me what you learned. The only other thing to do is check the trans dip stick to see if it is low on fluid. If it needs some use only ATF+4 type fluid.
