Chrysler Repair: 2.5L V-6 timing belt replacement frequency, timing belt replacement, service interval

Question
I have a 1999 Sebring with the 2.5L engine and the owners manual doesn't have a replacement schedule for the timing belt. At what interval should the belt be replaced?

The manual has a service interval of 105000 miles for the 2.4L engine, but says nothing about the 2.5.

Do you know the correct replacement schedule?

Thanks

Paul

Answer
Hi Paul,
I have not seen a schedule for changing the belt on that specific engine, but the approach I would recommend is to inspect the belt for signs of wearout and make that the guide as to when to change it. Other than that approach I would say 100,000 miles adjusted up or down based upon the extremes (or lack thereof) of driving pattern or temperature variations that it had been subjected to. The '95 manual for the Sebring (which included the 2.4 and 2.5 engines) did list 100,000 miles without distinguishing between engines, for example. That is probably a pessimistic recommendation in my opinion.
