Chrysler Repair: 97 T&C: engine stumbles/dies, no codes, wd 40, systemic failure

Question
My question is that my van would be fine from the start, then while driving it would randomly chug and id have to throw it neutral and restart and usually is fine. But then it did the same thing but then bogged out and wouldn't move but still running then died. The next day started it and it was fine no clue how though. I then brought it in and the tried to run a diagnostic and would not read any codes. Do you have any idea what this could be?
Thank you,
Brandi

Your help is most appreciated, Brandi

Hi Brandi,
Earlier this month I answered your question about your car and hope that is is repaired now. I have a favor to ask:
I am competing to be recognized as 'volunteer of the month' at this site. Would take a moment to click on the "Thank/rate the expert" button below?  You will then see a question which asks whether to nominate me for that award. If you then click on "yes" that would give me another vote. Thank you for your help.

Hi Brandi,
Who did the code readout and were there no codes (but still a positive indication that the code reading process worked) OR was there no response at all from the code readout effort? If the former then we have to think of non-code related causes, if the latter then we have to think about checking the wire from the code reader socket to the computer as possibly being 'open' or some other systemic failure. So tell me about that.
'97 was a transition year for codes. So try using your ignition key:"on-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. Then watch the check engine light, which remains 'on', to see if it starts to fhash, pause, flash, etc. If so, count the flashes before each pause. Then repeat the routine several times to be sure of an accurate set of flash counts. Then tell me the counts in the order that they appeared. If there is no flashing then watch the odometer window to see if instead the mileage reading changes to show a 4-digit number.
The only no code items that are common enough to mention are that the throttle body throat, both sides of the moveable valve plate and bypass idle air passage need to be cleaned due to a build-up or crud OR the egr valve stem needs to be lubed with some WD-40 and moved back and forth to loosen it up. Either of those could solve your problem.
Let me know the results of testing, and let me know if you want to do the services I listed, for details. Also mention which size engine (L) you have.
