Chrysler Repair: 1997 Sebring JXI conv: no start, flash pause, independent garage

Question
My convertible starts when it wants to. It will run fine as long as it is running but as soon as I shut it off it may start back up and it may not. I usually get about 15 cranks before it wont start back up, then I have to wait about 4 days before it satrts again. It does not have any fire through the plugs when it is not starting. I have replaced the distributor about 6 times already and I have put in a new PCM, I basically have done everything I can think of to it I have replaced alll the sensors I can think of it having. I think the firing system gets hot and has to cool off before it starts again but I dont know why.

Answer

I am competing to be 'expert of the month' and need your vote of confidence.
The race for "expert of the month" is going down to the wire.
Chrysler "repairer" vs. Microsoft "coder".
One vote per each answer is permitted.
Click on "Thank/rate" button below, then click on "Yes" for nomination.
Deadline to vote is Thursday, 4 PM CT.
Thanks

Hi Sean,
Has the no start problem been resolved? If you would like to tell me there is a "Thank/rate the expert" button below which if you click will take you to page where you can "comment".
May I also ask a favor? On that same page you will see the question "Would you like to nominate this expert to be 'volunteer of the month"? If you will click on "Yes" that would be appreciated.  I am competing for that recognition which is based on nominations from questioners like yourself. Achieving it will increase awareness of the Chrysler repair category.

Hi Sean,
I wonder if you have any fault codes stored in the pcm memory. Try the ignition key:"on-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. Then watch the check engine light to begin to see it flash, pause, flash, etc. Count the number of flashes before each pause. Then do it again to be sure of an accurate set of flash counts. Then combine the counts in order of appearance to form the 2-digit fault code numbers. Then go to www.allpar.com/fix/codes.html for a code list. The last number is always 55, the code for end of readout. It may not work, and if that is the case go to an Autozone parts store for a free readout with a plug-in reader, or at an independent garage for under $40. Let me know what numbers you get, and ask the reader what they mean, and we'll go from there.
I doubt it is a cool down issue as if it were it would not shut down for 4 days but rather for about an hour. I would suggest that you check the egr valve to possibly be sticking ajar, but when you say it has 'no fire through the plugs' that negates that possibility which only affects mixture, not spark.
