Chrysler Repair: Disabling Alarm: 92 New Yorker, chrysler new yorker, fuse box

Question
QUESTION: please help.

i have the exact same problem and car (1992 Chrysler New Yorker Fifth Avenue V6) as here:  http://en.allexperts.com/q/Chrysler-Repair-807/2008/12/92-New-Yorker-anti.htm

i read what you wrote and been crying for 2 days b/c i'm 23 years old on my own in a strange small town trying to fix this myself due to the economy, little money and no family. i’m not dumb but know little about cars so i stopped crying and feel i can do anything i put my mind to it. i read your instructions on how to disable the theft alarm but don’t know how to locate a floor console from a fuse box (is the floor console the glove box?) can you help or tell me where I could find a free online diagram pointing me to the correct parts or walk me through it.

i hope this is something someone like me can do myself.

thanking you in advance.

ANSWER: Hi Anna,
I am going by the '92 manual but it isn't highly specific. Basically you have to get to the area behind and above the glove box (which is the box at the very right hand end of the dash) because that is where the theft module is located. The floor console is a box sitting the middle, on the floor, if you have one. The glove box appears to be attached to a fuse box door opening to its left, and to the cigarette lighter/ash receiver; and the entire module comes out together. There are 10 screws that go around the module that you need to remove. It may be necessary to remove the floor console to get to the screws near the center/floor area. Then after you remove the screws and start to pull the assembly out you have to disconnect wires that go to the cigar lighter and to glove box light so that you can finally pull out the module all the way. At that point go back to the http://en.allexperts.com/q/Chrysler-Repair-807/2008/12/92-New-Yorker-anti.htm   document and follow the procedure to disarm the alarm system, start the engine, and then pull the plug on the alarm box WHILE THE ENGINE IS RUNNING. If you don't want to go though all this, then if you can disarm the system via the passenger key door lock so as to be able to get the engine running, then you can avoid getting alarmed out by never using the door key, the power door locks, or the key fob to secure the car. Only use the push buttons to lock the doors. And only use the keys to unlock the doors (turn the keys only in the unlock direction so as not to accidentally set the alarm up again.
But you can decide which way to go to get around this problem.

QUESTION: thank you so much for replying to me, roland.

the problem i am having is that disarming the system via the passenger key door lock no longer works correctly.  after trying for 20 or so minutes (repetitively unlocking the passenger door with the key), i can eventually get the anti-theft lights to finally stop flashing but the minute i stick the key in the ignition and try to start the car, the "set" light for the anti-theft alarm gets triggered on.  it semi-starts and, of course, since that light is back on the ignition is locked.

i'm stumped and confused b/c it's like a puppy chasing it's tail.

ANSWER: Hi Anna,
I am not sure how it is that putting the key in the ingnition switch should trigger the set light. Did it ever do that before? I will look at the circuit and see if I can figure out how that could happen. In any case, I think you need to get the system removed, and that does require getting to the module. If at some point you can get the engine started then you can pull the plug. Maybe if you could get to the ignition key immediately after the light goes out it will not reset. Or alternatively, try waiting for a few minutes after you get the light to go out to see if letting time go by will prevent the reset.

PS: I do find that the ignition key is also sensed by the syatem, but it should not trigger an alarm unless the system is still armed. So maybe when you believe that is isn't armed it actually is armed and so you are alarming it. So try to get to the module, disarm the system with the jumper wires as I described, then start the engine, and then pull the plug out of the module.

QUESTION: hi roland,

yes, this is a problem that just started.  every time the battery dies on that model of car, when someone tries to jump it the anti-theft is triggered and i'd have to get out, disable (unlocking passenger door with the key), and then it was possible to jump/charge the battery.  whenever i've always had to do this (unlock passenger door with key) before, i had to do it several times and, eventually, the alarm would disable.

for some reason, now, it is taking longer/more attempts to disable via the passenger door and key.  eventually i can get the anti-theft lights to stop then i'll insert the key in the ignition and the yellow "set" light comes on and i'm back at square one.  due to no money i have no other option but to hold on to this car.

i really, truly and desperately appreciate all the time, help and information you've given and will wait to hear anything else you find out. ( moeugg1 @ yahoo . com ) dealing with the humiliation of trying to get people to help me is breaking me down.

Answer
Hi Anna,
I think the way to go is to get to that theft module by removing the glove box, etc. module as I described, disarm with a jump wire as described, start the engine, and pull the plug out of the module while the engine is running. I think you can do it. Feel free to contact me along the way.
