Chrysler Repair: Install timing belt: 3.5L (EGE) 95, chrysler new yorker, tensioner pulley

Question
I am replacing a broken timing belt on a 1995 Chrysler New Yorker 3.5 engine. The problem i have is getting the drivers side cam timing mark to line up,about the time it is going to line up it springs past.Do i need to hold it lined up when I install the belt?I only question this because the passenger side stopped right between the marks.  Thank You.

Answer
Hi Randy,
You need to apply the timing belt in a specific pattern: start it at the crank sprocket go counter-clockwise, keeping tension on the belt as you go and until you get past the tensioner pulley. Then press the pulley against the belt to hold the tension and install the pre-compressed (compress in a vice, lock position with a pull pin) tensioner, and then release the pin so the tensioner holds the belt tight. The tensioner screws are torqued to 250 inch-pounds when installed in the housing. Then turn the crank two full revolutions to be sure the marks still line up. I hope this helps.
