Chrysler Repair: 99 dodge stratus:flaky fuel gauge reading, variable resistor, gauge reading

Question
when i put my foot on the gas my needle went to E and when i took my foot off the gas it went back to under a half a tank then it started to float then the same thing happen again my didnt run or sound funny it still drove like normal can you tell me what might be the problem?

Answer
Hi Angelica,
The float in the gas tank may have a 'dead' spot along its variable resistor and the jarring that occurs when you put your foot on the gas may have moved the float slightly enough to impact the resisance from the gauge.  If it does it all time like that in the future then it might be the wire bewteen the fuel float and the body computer is flaky. I would see how this works out as time goes by rather than make a move now.
