Chrysler Repair: 94 Lebaron keyless entry, chrysler lebaron, keyless entry system

Question
QUESTION: i have a 94 chrysler lebaron. it has factory power locks and factory alarm system. this is the system that requires you yo disarm it from the passenger door lock. anyway in the factory brochure for the 94 lebaron it shows the (then) dealer installed keyless entry system. this became a factory option in the 95 model. my question is what do i need to add this to my car? i have access to a factory 95 chrysler remote. what parts would i need to get? would a lhs or other model from 94 or 95 work for parts?

ANSWER: Hi Gregg,
I unfortunately don't have the '95 wiring diagrams for the Lebaron, just the '94. In the '94 lhs there was a seperate remote keyless entry module that of course had wiring (two harnesses) and it interfaced with the body computer (3 plugs). The '94 Lebaron had a less elaborate body computer (2 plugs) so it is not a plug and play modification, I would believe. The best approach would be to go to a dealer parts counter and look over the '94 and '95 Lebaron parts lists to see what was added to provide the RKE function. I would be inclined to go with the '94 module if indeed it was offered, and also check to see if the fob from '95 has an identical part to the fob for '94. But I suspect you will also need to get the wiring harness in order to hook together rke module to the rest of the circuits, unless by chance all '94's had the harnesses installed but just not provided with an RKE module at the time of assembly/sale. Overall, just because you have access to a '95 remote is far from being able to utilize it.
On your current factory lock system, I believe that you should be able to disarm the theft system from the driver's door lock. It is probably the light green/orange wire from the driver's door lock to pin 18 of the natural color plug at the theft alarm module that is "open" (most likely at the hinge area) that is defeating your ability to disarm from the driver side.

QUESTION: one last question. if i were to find a 95 lebaron that had this option and it required no additional wireharness mods would i simple be able to swap the body computer and have the 95 remote?

Answer
You would have to compare the plugs for the two bcm's to see if they were similarly numbered and if so, then why are they different? Is there anything basic about the digital system overall, and if so then you might have other incompatibility by switching the bcm's. I would be hesitant to open that 'can of worms'.
