Chrysler Repair: 2001 Stratus -No Spark, 4 digit numbers, crank sensor

Question
Hello Kevin,
I am working on a 2001 stratus, I replaced the engine with a 2.7 that I rebuilt. We have no spark. I checked both the Cam angle sensor and replaced the crank sensor and tested it. They are both sending signals. The problem I believe is the ASD relay. It pulls in when i turn the key on and then drops out right away. I pulled the relay and switched it with another identical relay and the same result. so I jumpered the socket and I get power to the coils but still no spark. I checked all the fuses in the asd circuit and they are all good. Why wont the relay stay pulled in. Can you tell me what the ignition control looks cpu looks for as far as sensors and if there is a problem does it drop out the asd relay?

Thanks,

Dan

Hi Dan,
It is normal for the ASD to drop out when you first turn the key to run position. That is the safety purpose, to not have power to the fuel pump or the coil if the engine isn't turning over. It should close as soon as you start cranking and if the engine catches and runs it should stay closed.
If you have pulsing signal at the pcm from the two sensors then the ASD will remain closed. So check the wires from the sensors to the pcm if you do have pulsing at the sensor plugs but the ASD is open when you are cranking. Have you tried to get fault codes? "on-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time, then watch to see if the odometer changes from mileage to show any 4-digit numbers.
