Chrysler Repair: 98 Mini-van battery drain with ignition off, clock circuit, radio clock

Question
98 chrysler town&country 3.8 v6--battery drain is about .650A
I remove fuse #8(radio) draw drops about .250A
I remove relay  for cig&accy it drops another .250A...
also before I noticed clock on radio stays ON after car is locked...

Answer
Hi Martin,
There is a time-dependence to such measurements because the TCM will draw about 500 mA for about 20 minutes after turn off, and typically after everything is timed out the reading will still be .005 to .025A. The draw on fuse 8 is both from the radio and from the speaker relay in the fuse box under the dash, so see how much removing the relay reduces the draw. The radio clock 'on' is perhaps an internal fault of the radio, although of course the clock circuit and radio preset function will draw a small amount of current, even with the display dark. The display is mediated from the body control module and the step dimmer in the headlamp switch. I am not certain what else might be mediated by that pathway so I can't be sure whether the fault is in the radio or the body control mediation. But check to see if the speaker relay plays a role in the .250.
The cigar/acc. relay should not draw any current if the ignition switch is off, and it will draw in the acc position because the relay actuation coil will be activated. So perhaps the acc position of the ignition switch is stuck in the activated mode. So check to see if fuse 8 is cold when the ignition switch is in the off position, which it should be.
Let me know what you find.
