Chrysler Repair: No heater/ac control function:00 minivan, check fuse, tv repair shop

Question
I have a 2000 Chrysler Voyager.  All of the dash panel (rear wiper/defogger/ac controls) all quit working as well as my heater. I took it to the dealership and they said that it was some kind of control module that would cost $385.  I don't have that kind of money to pay that much for a part and then labor on top of it.  Could you tell me what "module" this might be so I could see about getting the part on my own and doing it myself.

Answer
Hi Lana,
The 'control module' they suggested is probably the heater/ac control panel in the dash. I believe that you should be able to find one used at a wrecking yard and simply remove it and substitute the used one from the yard. If it is a 'pull-it-yourself' yard it will be less expensive and also it will give you an opportunity to try your skills in the yard before working on your own minivan first.
Before getting into that process check fuse #6 in the fuse box that is under the dash on the driver side next to the cowl panel. If that is good, then there is a possibly a simple fault in a 'trace' on the circuit board inside the heater/ac control module which could be repaired rather than replacing the module. Another questioner described that possibility when if you have lost the rear wiper/rear blower but the front blower works: then if you remove the module and look at the circuit board located underneath the top temperature slider control you may see a defect in a strip of metal on the board called a 'trace' which can be by-passed by soldering a wire between the ends of the trace. A tv repair shop can do that if you don't have the experience with soldering/electronics repair. So consider looking into that after removing the module from the dash.
There are 4 pages in the manual that show the removal procedure which I can xerox copy and postal mail to you if you will give me a mailing address.
