Chrysler Repair: 94 LeBaron conv.: miscellaneous body feature problems., cable clamp, water intrusion

Question
Sir, My car alarm started working only from the left passenger door. Then the bell alert for key in ignition after car off stopped. Then auto door locks work only in unlock mode. Then check panel light came on and all other dash bell alerts stopped and night interior dash lights failed. I have no owners manual and can't locate one. Please help I don't know what to do.Angella

Answer
Hi Angella,
When you say 'left passenger door' is this a right-hand drive model made for England? If so, then I would want to know that, or perhaps you call the passenger door to be on the left as you face the car from the front?
Because you have so many different problems related to body electronics (and if they started to occur in a short space of time) my hunch is that there is one common cause for all of them: water intrusion to the two 25-pin plugs on top of the body control module, which is a device where most of these problem areas is mediated. That can happen in a heavy rain or car wash when the water leaks in around the edge of the windshield above the module and drips down upon it. On a US car (left hand drive) the module is located in front of the passenger door opening, near the floor hidden behing a trim panel.
To get to the module, start by detaching the battery - cable clamp as a precaution against a short circuit (you will have to reset the radio presets after you hook up the battery later). Remove the screws holding the trim panel in front of the door opening and the door opening scuff plate. That will reveal the module (By the way the module is also the source of the bell alerts, so if you remember where it sounded to be coming from that would tell you which side of the car to look for it now).
Once you remove the two plugs on the top I would suggest that you spray some 'electronics circuit board cleaner' from a pressurized can (available at electronics stores) on the pins of the plugs and on the socket into which the pins are inserted. Let that evaporate and then check to see if there is any improvement in these problem areas. If not, then we will have to diagnose each problem separately. But in other convertible owners experience, when several different 'gremlins' appear together it is usually something like I have described.
