Chrysler Repair: trans code 0700, steering column, last nite

i have a 03 stratur and when driving it on the interstate last nite it went out of gear and does not want to stay in gear but tryes. the fluid is still red and not burnt smelling. when i checked the code it came up with 0700...plz advise

That code is really a categorical indicator: that there is aanother transmission fault code stored in the trans controller, but 0700 itself is non-specific. A readout via a code reader plugged into the socket under the dash by the steering column may come up with another code in the 700 series that would be revelatory. If there is an Autozone parts store nearby they will often do a readout for free. Get the number and also what they say is its title and meaning. Then let me know and we'll go from there. An indendent shop will do it for under $40.
