Chrysler Repair: Is the transmission or its control module at fault? Code 0703, powertrain control module, 1999 chrysler concorde

Question
QUESTION: I Have a question. I have a 1999 Chrysler Concorde and I was wondering if I replace the transmission am I also replacing the transmission computer. I had the transmission looked at, they hooked it up to some kind of machine and it was reading out normal on ALL levels but it drives likes its the transmission and this other mechanic suggested that it could be the transmission computer, and that replacing the transmission might not work if it is the transmission computer. do you know?

ANSWER: Hi Scott,
No the transmission control module (computer) is a separate part located in the left front corner of the engine compartment, just in front of the powertrain control module (engine computer) which itself is in front of the power distribution center (box containing fuses and relays). So try to find out whether the tcm has stored any fault codes in its memory that give you a clue as to exactly what it thinks is wrong. There is a socket under the dash by the steering column where a fault code reader can be plugged to do the readout. An Autozone parts store will often do the readout free. Get the 4-digit code numbers (each pre-fixed by a P) and then tell me what they are. That will tell you how to fix it.

QUESTION: Well the code is P0703-brake switch stuck and P1685 key immobilizer module identification key, but my machanic friend said the brake switch code is the tar converter. But I just recently found out the tar converter and brake switch is all part of the transmission. This other machanic wants me to pay to get my TCM tested since everything seems to read out right on his ,machine but obviously is not right when it accellarating changing gears and I was thinking I could just replace the transmission. I don't want to have to spend unnessacery money and it STILL be the transmission. I was told by a couple of machinics that if the tar converter is replaced then jerking when I brake/slow dowwn will stop, and brake switch will be replaced with other transmission, right? Thanks for your help.

Answer
Hi Prescious Scott,
I don't see how the code 0703 has anything to do whatsoever with the torque converter or any other part of the transmission or its controller. It is related to the cruise control system and the engine controller which need to know when you step on the brake when you are cruising with speed control so that it will drop that feature and allow the engine to idle down and prevent an accident. I would get another code readout and start all over again. You are not getting good advice in my opinion. The costs of transmission repair are too high to follow that advice.
