Chrysler Repair: Sebring JXI Convertible: no interior lights, manual roland, rear view mirror

Question
QUESTION: Hi Roland, I recently purchased a 2000 Jxi Convertible and I noticed that there are no interior lights when you open the door with the exception of the light in the back of the centre console. On looking I found the lights in the rear view mirror and both globes were blown. I have replaced them ad they do not work at all. The switch on the indicator stalk does not turn any of them on either. I have checked all fuses and they seem to be ok . Please help !!

ANSWER: Hi Trevor,
The lights all require the 'action' of the illuminated entry relay which is controlled by the body control module. The relay is under the dash, to the right of the steering column and has an 9-pin (5 wires only) black plug. I can't tell you specifically what it is attached to or even if it may just be hanging from its harness, but try to locate it.
It gets power on pin 4 from fuse #5 in the nearby fuse box. I suspect fuse 5 is ok because at least the rear floor lamp works which is also powered by that fuse, but just in case I would check fuse #5. If you have power to the pin 4 and the relay doesn't click when you open the door or try the courtesy lamp switch on the stalk, then either the relay is no good, the wire from it to the body control module is "open" (brown/light green to pin 1 of the 6-wire natural color plug on the under dash fuse box), or the pin 4 of that plug is not grounded as it should be. You could unplug the relay and put 12V across pins 4 and 6 of the relay and see if it clicks, and when it does check for continuity between pins 8 and 2. Please let me know what you learn. This system is a bit complex and obscure in the manual.

QUESTION: Hi Roland,
I found the relay,(2 of them actually) and it seems to be ok. I tried swapping them over and the door and console lights stayed on. Swopped them back and they work fine. The stalk switch does nothing, not a click or anything, could it be faulty?. The lights in the mirror still dont work. I replaced Fuse # 5- still nothing

Answer
I believe the other relay you found is for the rear deck release if you found it on the right side of the brake pedal mounting bracket. I don't find there to be any control of the interior lights on the "indicator stalk" if by that you mean the multi-function (including turn signal) stalk. The manual is not very clear on exactly what degree of manual control of the interior lights is available. All it says it the remote keyless entry system provides the illuminated entry system, if you have the RKE. That IES system is complexly time-controlled as well. So I would check the operator's manual to see what that says. There is not sufficient explanation of the tie in between RKE and IES in what I have. Perhaps you will need to identify what lighting devices are definitely manually controlled and don't work and perhaps I can help you with those.
