Chrysler Repair: 1988 Chrysler 5th Ave: dies, recovers after cooling, crank sensor, position sensors

Question
Problem: Car stalls after restarting when it sets for only a few minutes.  It can set all day or even a couple of hours and it runs okay.  Do you have any suggestions as to what might be the problem.

Answer
Hi Vickii,
I suspect one of the engine position sensors is failing because these symptoms occur when they do. The way to find out is to use the ignition key:"on-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. Then watch the check engine light, which remains "on", to begin to flash, pause, flash, etc. Count the number of flashes before each pause. Then repeat the process to be sure of an accurate set of flash counts. The last set of counts will always be 5 in each, because that is the code 55 which is for "end of fault code readout" which is what we are trying to do. All the other counts that came before the 5 and 5 are relevant to the problem.
Combine the other counts into pairs, in the order of appearance, to form the other 2-digit fault code numbers. Then write back and tell me the numbers and also tell me which engine you have in the car. I can tell you what needs to be done and probably how to do it yourself if you would like to do that. Chances are it is cam sensor (code 54) or the crank sensor (code 11) but it could be something else so lets get the numbers.
