Chrysler Repair: Chrysler Town and Country 1998, chrysler town and country, 4 digit numbers

Question
For the last 3 summers the van would let you start it but then it dyes right away. If you wait for about 10 min. then it would start right up. It only did it in the sumer. So 3 weeks ago it finally would not start any more. We had it towed to my work, which is a Nissan dealer. So about two days later they call and tell me that it was a safety switch, but know it will start but die right away. I told them that that was the problem that I had been telling them all along. That know one had any idea what it was. So they told me that they would work on it when they were not busy. They had the van for almost two weeks when they called and told we that whey got in it and it started, but that they are now telling me that my tranny is shot. They said they did a presure test on it and it had no presure. I have never had any trouble with the tranny. Help could they have put the wrong safety switch in it.

thank you

Cindy

Answer
Hi Cindy,
The start and die in a second or two is more symptomatic of a failure to disarm the theft system. Try using the door key to lock/unlock the passenger side door to clear it firmly. Let me know if that doesn't work. Try to get fault codes using the ignition key:"on-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. Then watch the odometer window to see if the mileage changes to read any 4-digit numbers preceeded by a P. Let me know what you learn.
I thing the trans theory is faulty, and it will show a code if it were true.
