Chrysler Repair: 300M overhead map/courtesy bulb replacement, air intake hose, flat blade

Question
How do you replace a map light bulb? I removed the screw on the back of the cover, but the console does not come off and I don't want to force it. If I can get the cover off, how do I safely replace the bulb for the right side toggle lamp?  Would appreciate your help.

Answer
hi tmarie,
I assume that this map bulb is located in the overhead console. To replace the lamps in the console the console itself has to be removed. You remove the screw on the cover. The '04 manual says to then put your finger tips on both sides of the console and pull straight down to release the console from clips on the rear it that attach it to a fixture mounted above it behind the liner. I assume this applies to your '03. The other manual I have is for '98 and it says to pull down the front of the console to release it from the clips, so I can't be absolutely certain which is correct. I would start with the '04 manual techniquw. Once you have it released you will probably need to disconnect all the electrical plug from socket in the console unless the harnesses are long enough for you to tilt is such as to allow you to inspect the bulb sockets for the lamp you want to replace. If you can see the bulb/socket in question the '04 manual says to use a flat blade screwdriver and twist to remove the bulb/socket. Once that is removed you pull the bulb stright out of the socket. It is shown to be a #192 bulb.
You might want to begin the process by disconnecting the "(-)battery post remote" connection located on the right strut tower under the hood (which is adjacent to the air intake hose for the air path from the air filter housing to the engine air intake) so that there is no live electrical wires at the console when you are servicing it. It us a fat wire held in blace by a nut and is labelled as remote battery post. That would circumvent a short circuit which would blow a fuse.
I hope this is helpful to you.
