Chrysler Repair: Dodge Intrepid Dash Light Bulb Replacement, air intake hose, 2000 dodge intrepid

Question
I know this may seem silly, but we can't find out how to get access to replace a burned out bulb for the fuel gauge dash light on my 2000 Dodge Intrepid.  It's almost impossible to see the fuel level at night.  Is there an easy way to get to the bulb so we can replace it?

Thanks,

Answer
Hi Leighanne,
It is not too difficult:
Just for electrical safety you may want to remove the - post battery wire from the 'remote' connection on the right strut tower near the air intake hose under the hood. This is optional and because doing so can also cause system 'gremlins' when reattached I would forgo this. Only if you need to pull the plugs on the back of the cluster would I do it.
Take the left side end cap off the dash
Till the steering wheel down to lowest position
Then using a thin wooden stick or spatula pry gently around the decorative bezel that surrounds the instrument cluster area to release clips that hold it in place and remove the bezel
Then you will see screws holding the cluster in place which you should remove and also unlatch a clip/latch at the top edge of the cluster
Then pull the cluster gently out. There are two wire connectors that are fairly firmly held to the board so if you can pull it out far enough to reach the bulb in question I would not try to remove the plugs. The illumination bulbs are #194 type. Pulling on the plugs can result in damage to the electrical solder connections between the plug socket and cluster circuit board, thus my suggestion to try to change the bulb without disconnecting them.
