Chrysler Repair: Code p0700, fault code reader, autozone

Question
Hi Ronald,

I've been reading some of your past answers and wanted to know if changes the trans controll mod on a 2000 concorde 3.2 engine is something i could do myself. the cars engine light came on and it wouldn't shift into a higher gear(running 3000rpm at 35-40 mpr)

The codes that came up on the odomitor were p0700 and p1648

Thanks

Answer
Hi Steve,
The interesting thing about an 0700 is that there is supposed to be another code about the transmission also stored in the memory of the trans computer. The 0700 nominally is just an 'alerting' code. I would be inclined to get a readout with a fault code reader to see if you can find a third code. As far as I can find there is no 1648 code, might it have been instead a 1684? The 1684 just says the battery power was disconnected recently. I assume that may be the case.
I wouldn't do anything without another trans fault code. You are currently in 'limp in mode' which is programmed into the system when a code for the trans has been set which implies the need to minimize use of any gear other than second to avoid damage.
An Autozone parts store will often to the readout for free.
