Chrysler Repair: 99 chrysler sebring limp mode, 4 digit numbers, chrysler sebring

Question
About two months ago car went into limp mode, transmission mechanic ran codes and rec'd the relay code.  But after taking out relay and putting back in car ran fine for about one and 1/2 months.  Car died @ stop light, rich fuel.  After two weeks finally diagnosed as egr valve.  So car now runs fine but still goes into limp mode.  Can run one whole day fine and the next goes directly into second gear when you put in drive.  Mechanic is not sure which of the three ports is the transmission relay.  Can we check this before buying a bunch of parts.  Car runs good when not in limp mode.  He doesn't think it's the trans.  Help!

Answer
Hi Lori,
If you have the convertible model, the trans relay is the front most one in the box under the hood right behind an unused relay socket*. I would suggest also that you re-read for fault codes using the ignition key:"on-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. Then watch the odometer window to see the mileage reading change to any 4-digit numbers preceeded by a P. Tell me what those numbers are and we can go from there.

*let me know if you have the coupe body instead, which is a different car entirely.
