Chrysler Repair: Engine stall after fill-up: 05 300, autoparts store, engine stall

Question
My 05-300 w/hemy will stall and die only when refueled, and then want do it again until next refueling.

Answer
Hi Jerry,
This sort of problem is usually related to liquid fuel being drawn into the vapor recovery system instead of the fuel vapor. As the result when the engine goes to recycle fuel vapor from the vapor canister instead it gets a shot of fuel which floods the engine. I am not sure if the 300 has a fuel/vapor separator at the tank or not (I know the minivans do and this has been the source of a similar problem) so that would be the first question to resolve at a dealer parts counter. In the van that separator is not sold separately and requires replacing the tank. But that may not be the case with the 300.
The other approach would be to seek a fault code readout of the powertrain controller which may bring forward an alternative explanation. You can often get a free readout at a nationwide autoparts store such as autozone. If you get a 4-digit code, ask its name and what it means. Then write back with a follow-up question and we can compare what you learned with what the manual says.
In the meantime try not filling the tank until the automatic pump cut-off but instead make an educated guess as to how much you need to nearly fill the tank.
