Chrysler Repair: 06 T & C Sliding Door doesnt close all the way, drb iii, chrysler town

Question
The drivers side sliding door on my 2006 Chrysler Town & Country will not automatically shut all of the way.  The auto function will shut the door until their is approx 3" remaining and it stops.  Is their a sensor of some sort that is malfunctioning?

Answer
Hi John,
The most recent manual I have says that the control module, which is mounted inside the door can sense when there is resistance to the door closing and thus stop the action and actually reverse the motion. That is not exactly like yours is behaving. By '06 the design may have been modified. Alternatively, the module may simply have to 're-learn' the characteristics of the door and re-program itself to close all the way. That is done using the dealership-level diagnostic device called a DRB-III to interface to the module. You might inquire if such a re-learn is applicable to your model and symptom and what the cost would be. It should not be time consuming.
You might also ask the question of Kevin, the other Chrysler expert, to see what he can find out. He should become available around 7 pm CST.
