Chrysler Repair: 99 concorde lxi limp mode:codes 0715, 1489, concorde lxi, volt ohm meter

Question
99 lxi 3.3 140x check engine light came on went into limp mode went to auto zone got codes p0715, p1489, p0700. he printed out what they mean so I bought both the input and output sensors. How hard will these be to change? When I take the sensors out will tranny fluid come out? Do you think this will resolve my problem? Thanks

Answer
Hi Justin,
The 1489 is about the relay for the high speed fan function having an issue with its control circuit. That could be corroborated if the fan fails to go to the high speed setting when the temp gauge is pushing toward H.
The 0715 is saying the input speed sensor circuit or sensor itself is faulty (the output sensor has code 0720).  Both sensors are on the side of the transmission that faces the front of the vehicle.  They are both about mid-level, the output is at the very rear of that side of the transmission, while the input is near the front end. You may find it easier to get to from underneath but I can't be certain about that, or remove some parts that block access from the engine compartment top side. It has a multiwire plug which you remove by pulling straight out, after first gently lifting a lock tab on the edge of the plug. Unscrew the old, screw in the new. Tighten to about the same torque as a spark plug.
I would just change out the input speed sensor to be responsive to the specific code. The 0700 is just a catch all to report there is a transmission code that has been logged into the memory.
Tranny fluid should not drip out. If you are in limp mode, and you have the 0715 then chaning the input sensor has a good chance of fixing the problem. If it doesn't then I would suggest testing the wire from its plug to the transmission control using a volt-ohm meter.
Change the output sensor only when you get the 0720 code.
