Chrysler Repair: output sensor on transmission, chrysler sebring lxi, 2002 chrysler sebring lxi

Question
QUESTION: I have a 2002 chrysler sebring lxi and the transmission is stuck in limp mode I think its the output sensor but I don't know where it is on the transmission to change it I normally do what work I can on my own vehicals when possable but haven't had to work on this one yet and this is my first chrysler.where is it located on the transmission.

ANSWER: Hi Henry,
It is on the side of the transmission that faces the front of the vehicle. There are two speed senors, input and output. They are both about mid-level, the output is at the very rear of that side of the transmission, while the input is near the front end. You may find it easier to get at from underneath but I can't be certain about that, or remove some parts that block access from the engine compartment top side. It has a multiwire plug which you remove by pulling straight out, after first gently lifting a lock tab on the edge of the plug. Unscrew the old, screw in the new. Tighten to about the same torque as a spark plug.
You might want to get a fault code readout for free at an autozone parts store. If the code comes out 0720 that would indicate it is the output sensor at fault.

QUESTION: I am getting p 1684 and p 0700 codes when I turn off and on the ignition several times and leave it on on the last(error code on the odometer)then it reads done. What do these codes mean.Thank you verry much.By the way Hi to you.

Answer
Hi Henry,
The 1684 simply means that sometime in the recent past the battery power to the engine computer was disconnected (probably because the battery was disconnected) and unless that is not the case it is a moot point. Ont the 0700, that says that indeed a fault code is stored in the transmission computer, and presumably because it didn't also show up on the odometer that you need to do a readout of the computer via the underdash socket, as I suggested perhaps for free at Autozone. I believe that this code is there for indicating to those who use the ignition key readout that that approach will not bring forth the trans fault codes and that the only way to get them is with the plug-in reader. So do that for sure to find out which sensor (or other code) is showing
