Car Stereos: Car Stereo, hyundai sonata, oem system

Question
The display light went out in my 2001 Hyundai Sonata Can the lamp be repaired or How do I remove the radio to replace the entire system?

Answer
Hi Mike,

Whether or not the light can be replaced depends on whether or not its an LED or just a bulb.  If it's an LED, it's unlikely it can be easily replaced.  If it's a bulb, then you can probably just put a new one in, but either way, it's going to involve opening the unit up to find out, and it may not be worth it when an inexpensive aftermarket deck can be had for little (and you can probably find an OEM system at a wreckers for even less).

To replace the deck, you'll have to pry off the switch plate, remove the screws behind it.  Remove the cover that the screws free, and it will uncover new screws.  Unscrew those, and remove the cover.  Be very gentle, as it's a very hard plastic and is susceptible to breaking.

Replace the deck, and the replacement is the reverse of removal.

Good luck,
Justin
