Chrysler Repair: 2005 sebring A/C vent control, floor vents, electrical connector

Question
The A/C blows from floor vents and defroster vents but will not from passenger vents, what could be wrong ??

Answer
Hi Dave,
There is a 'mode' door electrical position actuator which shifts the air paths which is probably not working, or the door itself could be binding up inside the housing. It is located on the bottom of the a/c-heater housing on the far left end of it. If you remove the panel on the bottom of the dash on the left side this will give you better access to the underside. Then look for a round device with an electrical connector at the front corner of the left end of the housing. Disconnect the connector, remove the screws that hold the actuator to the housing and pull the actuator straight down. Notice the position of the shaft of the actuator and that of the door socket to which it mates as you will want to have them lined up when you re-install the actuator or a replacement if necessary. Then test the door rotation to see if it is binding. If not, then try reconnecing the wires and start the car and try changing the air pathway request and see if the actuator moves or not. That will give you the answer as to what is the cause of the loss of control of the air.
