Answer
Hi Tracy,
There are many issues with AC system replacement work (recapturing and storing refrigerant, evacuating system prior to replacing refrigerant, installing necessary system oil, charging the system to the proper level of refrigerant to name several) which require knowledge and some equipment. I have shied away from working on this system for that reason. There are too many parts which if mis-handled can be costly/difficult to replace (the evaporator and other parts under the dash require extensive teardown to replace). I have opted to let professionals do the work for that reason. Whether it is the compressor or the clutch or internal lubrication are possible reasons for a noisy compressor. I would not get into it, but there are manuals, etc. that will tell you how to do it and you would want some associated tools. I have the factory repair manual for that car and can xerox the pages and send them to you. It costs me 10 cents a side plus the postage and there are 50 pages so it would cost about $6.00 if you would like me to do that.
