Chrysler Repair: 1997 Plymouth Voyager: inside flashing wont stop, plymouth voyager, 1997 plymouth voyager

Question
My 9 year-old son unlocked the passenger side door and proceeded to start the car for his mom.  He then used the door locks to unlock the driver's side door.  The lights on the ceiling and on the rear back door began to flash and it sounds like the flasher lights are on, but they are not.  It will stop on it's own about 5 minutes into the drive, but starts again as soon as you start the car.  I encountered this once before, but have forgotten what I did to stop it.  Thank you for any help you can give.

Answer
Hi Chris,
I suspect that the relay you are hearing is the courtesy lamp relay located in the fuse box under the dash, bottom row right end. That one is activated either by the headlamp switch (rotate knob counter clockwise to turn on, usually, but experiment) and also the body control module will turn it on by itself without the use of the headlamp knob when a door is opened. I wonder if one of the door ajar switches that turn on the interior lights is not positively pushed in when the door is closed and is just on the edge of going on, and that driving the vehicle causes the door to move slightly which then turns the lights on. I would try pushing out from inside on all the doors to see if so-doing will turn on the lights. If so, then adjust the latch striker to more tightly close the door against the door frame.
It is also tempting to relate this to the vehicle theft system but that is not supposed to do anything to the interior lights when an alarm occurs. But in any case, you might try unlocking both front doors with the key when this begins to happen to see if that stops it.
