Chrysler Repair: 2000 LHS: ATC control panel, roland roland, diagnostic capability

Question
I have a 2000 Chrysler LHS that the climate control is stuck on.  If you turn it off it comes back on in about 5 to 10 seconds.  It continuously blows hot air out of the defroster and I can't change the temperature.  It displays two lines instead of a temperature.  I was wondering if you had any ideas as to what the problem may be.  Thanks

Answer
Hi Nick,
It may be an internal failure of the control unit but here are a couple of things to check:
Check fuses # 17 and 19 behind the dash (remove left side end cap for access to fuse box.
There is a self-diagnostic capability built-in to the system.  Simultaneously press and hold the three right-hand side buttons (of the six buttons on the control panel). The readout will start blinking. Then release the buttons. The readout will continue to blink. Then a two-digit number will display after a while. Note it, then press the Mode button to see any other possible numbers. Keep pressing the mode button and observing for numbers. Finally the display will return to the normal appearance. If no numbers appear, then the problem is elsewhere in the system or the control head has an internal electrical failure, of the communication wire to the body control module is impaired. Let's hope for a fault code two-digit number to display.
Write back with the numbers and I can tell you what to do.
