Chrysler Repair: 2000 Chrysler LHS: overheats when AC on, antifreeze coolant, chrysler lhs

Question
Hi,

I have a Chrysler LHS, year 2000. Recently I have observed that my car heats up gradually when my air condition is on. when it reaches to "HOT" on the temperature dial on the dashboard, I switched off my air condition and it automatically comes back to normal state, which is right in the middle of the dial. when I drive in the evening it doesn't occur but happens only when I drive in the afternoon or when it is too hot outside. Also, recently the radiator was flushed and new antifreeze/coolant was filled by using the car manual. Zerex G-05 was used in the car which was recommended by the Chrysler dealership since it uses HOAT chemistry. There is no bubbling or oozing sound not even fumes come out. The current mileage on the car is 169139. The dealership says it will cost $140 for diagnostics which I can’t afford in this economy. I never had any major problems before with the car, as it is serviced every 3 months as stated by factory recommendations. The car has 6 cyl 3.5L 24 valve engine, Vin ‘G’. Please help and thanks in advance for your support and advice.

Answer
Hi Akshay,
The cooling fans may not be coming up to high speed as required when the gauge goes high. The fans first come on low speed and then as the temp rises they should go faster. There is a separate fuse for each speed in the power box under the hood: Fuse B (30 amp) is for the low speed while fuse E (40 amp) is for high speed. Check those fuses for being blown or for having a subtle crack in the wire inside the fuse.
So next time you are out make a note to listen for the fans (or stop and pull over and open the hood) and see when they first come on, and then as the gauge rises whether they speed up or not.
Let me know the results.
