Chrysler Repair: stolen key fob, chrysler jeep dealer, jeep cherokee

Question
I have a 2000 jeep cherokee, my sons ex stole the key fob and has been accessing the jeep and stealing things. Is there a way to disconnect something so it can not be used?

Answer
Hi Janise,
I believe that the dealer can re-program the key fob module to no longer accept the signal from the original key fob, and then your son can acquire a new fob(s) and program the module to only respond to the new fob(s). Another approach would be to disconnect the key fob module itself and then only the door keys can be used to open the doors. So check with the dealer to find out the cost of those two approaches. I don't have any manuals for jeep vehicles so I can't describe the easiest way to disconnect the module if you wanted to go that route. Kevin, the other Chrysler expert, works at a Chrysler-Jeep dealer and may know more specifics but he is away 'on vacation' until 5/16.
