Chrysler Repair: crankshaft sensor: LH-body, crankshaft position sensor, crankshaft sensor

Question
I have a 99 3.5L read a manual and it said the crankshaft position sensor is located on the" transaxle bell housing which is located at the bottom right hand side of the engine" my quetion is " how do i get at it" jacking the car up and going from underneath or removing the upper manifold on top of the engine to reach it! just need the best answer so i dont create more work for my self.

Answer
Hi D,
I don't believe that going in from underneath will do it, unless that area as viewed from the top and is just at the seam between the engine and the transmission is so far back and so close to the firewall as to be inaccessible from above. The sensor is definitely above the midline of the transmission case so if that is the situation, then the only other choice is to go from underneath and reach around the edge and do it by touch. I haven't tried it so I can't tell you for sure. The manual is not specific.
